College Admissions Seminars https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/college-admissions-seminars https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/college-admissions-seminars#comments Sat, 14 May 2022 12:00:00 -0700 https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/college-admissions-seminars With college admissions decisions rolling out, many of you might be wondering how the application process works--and what you can do to prepare for it.
To help answer these and other questions, JT Hayashi is offering a series of three, free seminars here at church.  They'll be full of useful insights, with time for Q&A.  Parents of youth in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend.
Sunday, Jun 5:   The New Admissions Landscape.  We'll look at the most recent data on admissions at a variety of schools, talk about testing and test-optional schools, and discuss what all this means for applicants.
Sunday, Jun 12:   College "Fit," Finding the Right Schools, & Financial Aid.  How do you know where you'll get into college?  And what do you look for in a school to ensure you'll thrive?  And how do you pay for it all?!
Sunday, Jun 26:   Academic Planning, Summer Activities, & Essay Work.  This presentation focuses on all the stuff outside of grades and test scores.  We'll talk about all the fun stuff students can (and should) be doing to help create a successful application profile.
We want to offer a helpful service to our church families and their friends, so please invite those whom you think would be interested! Please sign-up here.
About the speaker: JT has worked in the college applications and test-prep industry for nearly two decades and recently accepted a position as Admissions Manager at an independent educational consulting group. He is a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and the Western Association for College Admission Counseling.

Community Compassion Fund https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/community-compassion-fund https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/community-compassion-fund#comments Thu, 28 Apr 2022 12:00:00 -0700 https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/community-compassion-fund If you know someone who is in need, who is struggling - a friend, a coworker, a family member - you could be the church to them. You could reflect the abundant generosity and goodness of God to someone who is in needs a little bit of grace. How can you be involved?

  • You can give to the fund on the app, CBC website, or Venmo @cbcgive (note: CCF)

  • Sign-up to get connected to this ministry and stay up to date on future needs

  • Connect others to the fund. Bless others!

Our genuine hope is that this fund makes us more aware of the needs around us; that you'd be looking for ways to bless people in the community, and ultimately, point people to Jesus, to His grace and goodness.

For more information, please check out Julie Spessert's sharing during service from Sunday, March 6th. Please do not hesitate to contact Steph Suzuki or Tina Lorenz with any questions!

Ministry Updates for March https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/ministry-updates-for-march- https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/ministry-updates-for-march-#comments Sun, 06 Mar 2022 15:00:00 -0800 https://www.cerritosbaptist.org/blog/post/ministry-updates-for-march- Sunday worship services at 9AM or 11AM at church for those who are comfortable attending in person. You may also join us online at 9 AM through the link on the website, app, or Youtube Channel.

Mask Guidelines.  Along with the CDC, state and county, we are making changes to our mask-wearing requirements.

  • Outdoors:  on Sunday, March 13, masks will be optional outdoors only.
  • Indoors:  on Sunday, April 3, masks will be optional in the sanctuary.

We anticipate that some people will wear masks and some people won’t.  It is optional, and no one will be judged either way.

We recommend that you continue to wear a mask if you or a family member has health issues, if you are unvaccinated, or if you feel safer wearing one a little longer.  The 11AM service usually has fewer people and more space for those who prefer socially distanced seating.

Contact Pastor Donna if you have questions or concerns.
