Drama Ministry
Mission Statement: "In Character
for God to Gain God's Character"
Drama
Ministry, through the use of the dramatic arts, is dedicated to
furthering the Kingdom of God by reaching the unchurched, nurturing
believers, and equipping believers to reach the unchurched.
As a tool for evangelism, our ministry strives to
support our pastors and speakers with meaningful productions that
will touch the hearts of believers and those seeking God.
As a fellowship of believers, our ministry strives
to nurture their walks with Christ through sharing and prayer.
As a dramatic arts production group, our ministry
strives to train believers in their craft as well as train them
to be ministers for God through the use of their craft.
Drama Ministry serves to bring both believers as
well as those seeking to know God to a place where they might experience
God. Especially in this age of visual media, dramas have become
a dominant form of artistic communication. It is also a powerful
form of spiritual communication, helping to break through people's
defenses and preparing hearts for worship and spiritual transformation.
In the ministry, the rehearsal process is a time
of fellowship, training, and creation. A regular time of sharing
and prayer allows opportunities to get to know one another, and
to support and minister to one another, forging a sense of "family"
and encouraging our individual relationships with God. Our fellowship
also has positive effects toward developing our skills. For effective
dramatic interchange, actors must learn to trust one another. Sharing
of personal lives, even pain, safely brings us to a point of vulnerability
that enhances this trust. This allows them us to be emotionally
giving and available to one another on and off stage.
Rehearsal is a time of training and discovery for
the actors. Not only are fundamental acting principles and tools
provided to help them discover "who they are becoming"
in a given sketch, but the sharing of personal experiences help
guide the development of their characters, anchoring them to real
emotions rather than superficial display of emotion. With training
and discovery comes growth, both as an actor as well as a child
of God.
Finally, in an effort to distinguish our purpose
from that of the secular acting industry, we take opportunities
to focus on the sermon message and the objectives of the particular
project. This helps the actor remember that he is a minister as
well as an actor for God.
