Mark Lum - Music Director
Mark
was raised up in Long Beach, California. He graduated from USC School
of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D. degree. His tent-maker job
is at the UCLA/Mattel Childrens Hospital Pharmacy. He has
been playing piano and violin since elementary school, and has played
in various community orchestras and ensemble groups. He taught himself
to play the organ, guitar, accordion and alto recorder. Mark was
called to the position of Music/Choir Director in 1984. He ministered
in this position for 16 years before being transitioned to the current
volunteer position of Music Director.
As a child, his parents took his whole family faithfully
to church every Sunday (imagine eight people crammed into a VW Bug)!
He mistakenly thought as a youth that singing in the choir, attending
church regularly, and being good would grant him entrance
into heaven. It wasn't until 1979 that he finally saw that the free
gift of eternal life was granted by faith in Jesus Christ. Mark
is amazed by Gods continued revelation for his purpose in
life -- currently the opportunity to compose, transcribe, arrange,
perform and direct the music for the the special programs and worship
services. Those piano and theory lessons, and past musical experiences
at school are being put to good use!
Mark has been married to his supportive wife Cyndy
since 1983 and has two very talented sons, Jaron and Clifton. He
enjoys music and computer activities, photography, movies, skiing,
and working out at the spa.
